Inter-club tournamentFirst match, at Leamington: Richard Ramjane (Ireland) v Josh Pike (Prested). A very close game, against a very good value-for-money 50 handicap. It went to the wire. Result: 5–6 Prested win. Chris Marguerie and Laura Neill (Ireland) v Bruce Hogarth Jones and Ian Hawke (Prested). Early lead to Ireland, 2–0 up in quick time. Prested come back to 2–2 in as little time. Game on. Game to and fros, and we get to 5—5 again. Ireland lose 6-5. Richard Ramjane (Ireland) v Clive Jeffery (Canford). Ramjane loses 6–4 in a very hard fought game. Laura and Chris (Ireland) v Rohan and Rob (Canford). Another narrow loss for Ireland, 6–5. All matches super close! Now Ireland head over to Moreton to face Scotland. Richard (Ireland) v Dan Worboys (Scotland). Richard, thinking this was a dead rubber, took the opportunity to have a bit of fun and lost 6–3. Another 6–5 for the doubles pair, but this time in their favour, seeing them qualify for Sunday on countback! Happy days. Quarter finals saw Laura and Chris losing to the standout pair of the weekend from Leamington. The pivotal game was at 4–2, when they came back from 40–0 to 40–40, playing at the receiving end, only for their opponent to find the Grille in the deciding point! Many thanks to the hosts and organisers! — Richard Ramjane |
