Mark Heffernan and Rupert Derham represented the IRTA in this year’s Brigands Doubles tournament, kindly hosted by Hardwick House. The IRTA pair had a promising start but narrowly missed out on advancing from the group state. Some great tennis; many thanks to the hosts and organisers.

Report

A great day was enjoyed yesterday with many highly competitive and fiercely contested matches. We had a number of the “usual suspects” represented, including two flights of Speedbirds. We also had the welcome addition of two new teams: the Old Etonians and the Old Wellingtonians. Despite some stalwart resistance and battling from within their respective groups, these two both made it through the semis to the final. The Old Wellingtonians proved to be a formidable pairing and, despite the best efforts of the highly talented Old Etonians, won the day.

Many thanks, as always to Victoria for provisioning so well, to Lesley for her great marking (despite having to make herself heard over the unremitting heavy rain!) and to Candida for her generous help and support. Finally, a big thank you to Hardwick House for allowing us to host again this tournament in their wonderful court and to the various peripatetic club Chairs/Captains for raising teams to represent their clubs.
